About Us
What's the purpose of this site?
UNIXBlog is a website for users and administrators of various open-source Linux/UNIX systems. The purpose of the site is to offer plenty of high-quality guides and howtos on how to solve known and common problems. The website is pretty young as it was released in the end of 2008 and we have a lot of work ahead in order to complete this goal.
Is this just another blog?
When we first started this project, the idea was to analyze and document the problems we came across in our daily life using Linux/UNIX. As the term "blog" is short for "web log", we decided to go with a "blogish" kind of page, since the initial idea was to log the problems we found. Though, we would prefer to think of it as a database of common problems and a place to find a solution to these problems. The goal is to have a place for users and administrators to know they most likely will find the answers for their problems.
Best practice
Normally when you come across a problem when using Linux/UNIX, there are usually plenty of different ways to solve it. Naturally, one of the ways are usually the most correct way, as it actually solve the problem rather than just adding a work-around for it. When we write our articles we always try to use best practice and actually solve the problem. This doesn't mean we won't offer a work-around or two from time to time, but we won't do so without also offering a best practice solution as well.
